Registering NGOs ensure accountability

Reference is made to your article in MaltaToday (28 November 2008) entitled “My Government and Other Animals”.
There is nothing “unfair” in the condition that voluntary entities or organisations must be enrolled with the Commissioner for Voluntary Organisations to qualify for Government support; it is conforming with the Voluntary Organisations Act (2007). The object of this Act is to ensure transparency and accountability in the voluntary sector as a whole and including animal welfare organisations. A good number of these are already enrolled – this confers credibility on them and assures the public that donations and other forms of aid given to them are properly accounted for.
