Encounter with dishonest bus driver

I have always been generally satisfied by the behaviour of bus drivers, but this week I got the surprise of my life at seeing the obscenity of a young bus driver on route 75.
As I normally use my own transport I did not know what fare is charged from the hospital to Valletta bus terminus. As I suffer from Parkinson’s disease I prepared 60 cents in my left hand (all gold coins), and in my right hand I presented my pensioners’ ID card. The bus driver issued a 23-cent fare, and took the money from my left hand and put the coins in the empty section of the money box. I asked him for the change, and he said ‘don’t you know how to count’?, so as to discredit me in front of other passengers.
When the bus reached Valletta bus terminus I reported the matter to a police officer and one of the Transport Authority men. I am concerned at the effect on our public image such behaviour brings about, and on the effects of senior citizens which deserve respect. Such drivers should be fired from the transport system.
