MLP leader Joseph Muscat is promising to help Joseph Cuschieri “find alternative employment in the private sector or elsewhere,” after the full-time MP gave up his only source of income to make way for the new party leader’s entry in to parliament.
But when asked by MaltaToday whether he was offered a job by his own party, Cushcieri refused to answer, claiming that any reply on this matter could be misinterpreted.
He simply stated that he has received a number of offers from the private sector.
Asked whether the MLP has offered Cushcieri any alternative employment or financial compensation, Joseph Muscat replied that Cuschieri “did not ask for any compensation.”
“By putting the party – and therefore the country – before his own political career, Joe exhibited an extraordinary degree of altruism, generosity and confidence in the Labour's new course. I intend, of course, to help him find alternative employment in the private sector or elsewhere," Muscat said in his reply.
In a letter sent to Muscat Cushcieri said that he was resigning because because of his loyalty and love for the MLP.
Muscat reciprocated by describing Cuschieri’s decision to give up his seat as “extra ordinary and generous.”
On Saturday the Labour leader praised Cushcieri for putting personal ambition aside when addressing an activity at Montekristo Wine Vaults, property of Polidano Brothers.
On his part Cuschieri promised to continue doing his part to help Muscat become Malta’s next Prime Minister.
