Fundamentalism: not only in Malta

I'm disheartened at Raphael Vassallo's article “Dinosaurs helped build the pyramids, school director says” at http://www.maltatoday.com.mt/2007/10/14/n5.html, which I found a link to on livejournal. I thought Christian fundamentalists were mainly America's problem. I don't object to religion (I believe in a deity myself, although I am not Christian), but I do object to disproved information being taught as fact, and to religious opinions being taught in schools in non-theocracies. If parents want their kids to go to a religious school, they should make them go after school. It's a sad commentary that people feel required to preface any positive comment about science with 'I'm not against religion.' My grandfather was both a very devout religionist (Christian) and an educated, successful industrial chemist. I wish more people today were like him. Good luck in Malta.
