Bartolo blames party, not media, for defeat

Evarist Bartolo yesterday exonerated One TV management and staff from all blame for the defeat of the Malta Labour Party in the 8 March election, holding “the party’s political tactics” responsible instead.
Speaking at the One Productions headquarters in Marsa, Bartolo promised to invest more in the party machinery if elected leader on 5 June.
“We should invest in our media to stick to our technological advances,” he said. “We should not break down what we have built. Instead, we should strengthen our media and widen opportunities in other sectors.”
In Bartolo’s view, it is not fair that incorrect and exaggerated criticism is levelled at the MLP media, as this negatively affects advertising revenue and and damages the company’s image with advertisers and sponsors.
“If I will have the opportunity to head the party, I will make sure that we invest more in new technology and in our workers’ capabilities to continue developing their talents,” Bartolo said.
The former Labour education spokesman also made reference to the “convergent platform”: a new type of media interface, which makes all existing services available through a new interactive portal.
According to Bartolo, the Internet should be given full attention since “it’s the best source of information”.
