Cardona calls for inclusive Labour Party

Labour MP Chris Cardona yesterday also launched his bid for the post of deputy leader for parliamentary affairs, calling for a party that is more inclusive of different sectors of Maltese society.
In a press statement, the Birkirkara-born MP said: “We have to be an inclusive party which is more open for all those who are interested to get involved in this political experience with enthusiasm. We have to be more open for the ideas of all those who genuinely wish a Party which is accepted by every social strata in the country.
“I believe that the Labour Party should be the political force in the country which, thanks to its serious and strong leadership, obtains all those successes our country needs. We also need to learn better how to build our future on solid ground.”
He said he was “ready and prepared from the first day to start working with my all my colleagues in the Party so that in a very short time, the Labour Party regains the trust of the absolute majority of the Maltese electorate.”
“We must all work together with principal aim – that of having a winning Labour Party and this can be achieved by offering the best polices on his agenda,” Cardona, who in the last legislature served as the Opposition’s main spokesperson for local councils, said.
“At the same time, we need to look forward together towards a Labour Party which should manage to unite behind it the entire workers’ movement,” he said.
After Labour MPs Angelo Farrugia, who announced his candidature last week, and Carmelo Abela, who announced his candidature yesterday as well, Cardona is the third candidate for the post of Labour Deputy leader for Parliamentary Affairs.
