Monday, April 16
Worker injured in fall

A 57 year-old worker was seriously injured in a fall while on a building site in Triq Kepler, Qortin, limits of Mellieha.

3,400 register for Dun Gorg canonisation
3,400 pilgrims have registered with the Curia to obtain a ticket to attend the canonisation of Dun Gorg Preca in Rome, on June 3.

Tuesday, April 17
Two die in Hamrun construction site

Godwin Buhagiar, 44 of Siggiewi and Sloboddan Drljic, 25 from Bosnia-Herzegovina met a horrific death when a freshly laid concrete roof caved in on them, burying them alive. Civil Protection and AFM personnel worked for hours to extract the victims from the debris. A Magisterial inquiry is underway.

Scheme targets hoarded cash
The Ministry of Finance launced a Currency and Bank Deposits Registration Scheme intended to target undeclared hoarded cash before Malta formally adopts the Euro in a few months time. The scheme launched by Parliamentary Secretary Tonio Fenech appealed to private savers to come forward and avoid being victims of counterfeit Euros when exchanging their hoarded Lira’s. Almost Lm250 million in undeclared cash is said to be in circulation.

Wednesday, April 18
Shopkeeper ordered to pay Lm4,000

Shopkeepers Jesmond and Rita Sant were ordered to pay over Lm4,000 to Silvio Sant, a baker, for bread supplied to their store in Mosta and was never paid for.

Two on fraud charges
Andrew Sullivan 60, and Angelo Zahra 58, were charged before a Magistrates Court with fraud and misappropriation to the detriment of Joseph Bugeja.

Two injured in jet-ski crash
Two young Britons were injured in a collision at sea while racing jet-ski’s at Ghajn Tuffieha bay. The men were hospitalised.

Thursday, April 19
Man dies in fall

A 73 year-old man died tragically after falling off a roof while working on a water tank. The man was reported to have been surprised by a sudden gust of wind that unbalanced him while removing a water tank lid.

Police clear milk farm
Hours after a court threw out a request for a prohibitory injunction by a farmer who contested his removal from an area earmarked for the development of SmartCity, police accompanied by Lands Department officials were on site to evacuate the farmer and his cows. He is to be given an alternative site.

Friday, April 20
Court confirms jail for paedophiles

An appeals court confirmed a 10 year jail sentence imposed by a criminal court against brothers Anthony and Dennis Pandolfino from Sliema who were found guilty of repeatedly raping two boys, also brothers.

Worker wins over Lm9,000 in damages
Mayer Scicluna, a skilled labourer who lost a right hand finger was awarded more than Lm9,000 in damages by a court. Scicluna, who was carrying a gas cylinder, lost his balance while walking on a wooden plank left by other workers on a construction site and fell with the cylinder landing on his hand and crushing his finger.

Saturday, April 21
Two arrested in false Euro raid

Two men were arrested during police raids in Marsascala and Sliema that yielded a considerable amount of false Euro bank notes.
