Making Saints

It’s amusing to observe how a dead man like Dun Gorg is transformed into a “saint”.
First, anecdotes and gossip about his life start circulating among a credulous populace. Then rumours start spreading about his alleged saintliness. Next, superstitious people start addressing their prayers to the dead man instead of praying directly to God.
The dead man, who never claimed miraculous powers while he was alive, is credited with such powers when he’s dead.
Needless to say, the “miracles” ascribed to the dead man are approved by the Vatican, and the Vatican then proceeds to flatter the dead man’s followers by declaring him a “Saint”.
Meanwhile, the dead man turns in his grave and laughs at human folly, as gullible pilgrims rush to Rome to witness his apotheosis.
