Ministers’ Income Declaration

With reference to the article entitled “Show me the money!” by Dr Anna Mallia (MaltaToday, 12th December, 2004), the following is a joint declaration made by the Prime Minister the Hon. Lawrence Gonzi, the Minister for Gozo the Hon. Giovanna Debono, the Minister for Rural Affairs and the Environment the Hon. George Pullicino and the Minister for Urban Development and Roads the Hon. Jesmond Mugliett:
In her frenzy to accuse and throw mud, your correspondent Dr Anna Mallia also refers to our declarations of income that we submitted in Parliament according to the code of ethics for Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries.
We stand by our income declaration and notwithstanding your correspondent’s allegations, our declarations reflect our true income for the past year.
It is also to be pointed out that Ms Mallia’s contribution is a disservice to politics and to all those who choose to dedicate their time and resources to enter the political scene. Fortunately enough, there are still people who believe that serving in politics is a tool to promote the common good and ensure the people’s prosperity.
We continue to endeavour politics in spite of all the difficulties and personal sacrifices that we have to endure. Articles like this one only serve to dissuade genuine persons from going into politics.
