Bank of Valletta’s newly instituted Chairman Roderick Chalmers, presided over the first Bank of Valletta annual conference since he was recently appointed to the post following the resignation of Joseph F X Zahra.
Speaking about the Bank’s strategy, Mr Chalmers said it would continue to be an aggressive, innovative and dynamic player in the local market for financial services, being supportive to its customers and providing added value on a long term basis.
“We need to continue to adapt and to change, taking advantage of new business opportunities that the market presents,” he comments.
Speaking to the Bank’s executives, heads and managers assembled for the event, Mr Chalmers said he would like BOV to continue to be guided by a number of key principles.
“It is important for any organisation to understand that two of its most important assets do not appear on the balance sheet, namely, its people and its customers. Indeed, for any organisation to be successful it has to ensure that customers are satisfied with the services they receive. It also has to ensure that it keeps its people motivated,” he explains.
Emphasising the importance of reputation he said that for any business to be successful it had to operate with absolute integrity, having a total commitment towards high quality standards.
The conference was also addressed by BOV Chief Executive Officer Tonio Depasquale, who outlined the main strategic directions which BOV will be following during the current financial year. He said it was important that the whole organisation embraces the bank’s strategies since business success was dependent on the implementation of a valid strategy: “Successful strategy implementation will also act as a catalyst for further strategic development within the organisation.”
The annual conference was also addressed by Igino Xuereb, Chief Officer Operations, Joseph M Formosa, Chief Officer Mortgages, Lino Decelis, Executive Head Financial Markets and Mario Mallia, Executive Head Financial Control.
The speakers gave an overview of the major strategies that BOV will be implementing during the current year in their respective areas of operation.
