An unused heliport with full-time staff

Gozo Heliport is a vacant place with administrative staff being paid for doing nothing as talks between Government and prospective foreign operators of a helicopter service continued this week.
Last Tuesday, Government received fresh proposals from the Spanish company interested in operating an inter-island helicopter service. Communications Minister Censu Galea said he was giving due consideration to the new proposals.
“There is also an Italian company interested in offering a helicopter service. I am waiting for their proposals as well,” Galea said.
Asked by MaltaToday for a deadline by when he expected the helicopter service to resume, Galea would not speculate on a date. “Ideally, I would like to see the service restarted sometime during the first two months of the new year,” the minister said.
At the moment Gozo’s only link to Malta is the ferry service after Government stopped the loss-making helicopter operation between the two islands.
Talks with a British company Veritair faltered a couple of weeks ago and discussions were subsequently started with the Spanish company.
