Is it not somewhat Gulliverish that a minuscule nation should have no less than five, repeat five, national remembrance days - Freedom Day 31 March; 7 June; 8 September il-Vittorja; Independence Day 21 September; Republic Day 13 December - even given our remarkable and eventful past and fond hopes for the future?
And would it not be a logical, simpler and more rational solution to revert back to our one and only ancient traditional, national and above all, non-controversial 8 September - il-Vittorja, which conglomerates and does not divide the nation?
Unfortunately in my days, 8 September - il-Vittorja has lost its former supreme proud patriotic glory and affection and fervent popularity and it is currently suffocated, submerged and drowned in the murky muddy waters of multiple divisive partisan political so called national days!
This bold action should not hurt anyone’s feelings too much, nor ruffle too roughly anyone’s feathers. Let’s endeavour to readdress the present situation and take a concerted communal giant step backwards for a much desired consensus on an issue of such national historic and political importance.
