In August Industry’s Total Turnover Index increased by six per cent, according to statistics released by the National Statistics Office. Industry’s Total Employment and Wages and Salaries Indices, meanwhile, increased by 3.6 per cent and 7.9 per cent respectively over the month while the Hours Worked Index increased by 11.7 per cent.
The Turnover Index for the Capital Goods group increased by a remarkable 26.4 per cent, while its Employment Index also grew by 21.9 per cent. The sub sector’s Wages and Salaries Index increased by 32.9 per cent while its Hours Worked Index increased accordingly by 34.8 per cent.
The Consumer Durable Goods Turnover Index registered an increase of 58.1 per cent from 70.4 in August 2003 to 111.3 in August 2004. It’s Employment Index showed a decrease of 18 per cent in the same period under review. A decrease of 10.1 per cent for the Wages and Salaries Index was also registered by the group, while a significant fall of 26.4 per cent was registered in the Hours Worked Index.
