Land Reclamation is the only practical approach to solve the ever increasing problem of building material and other demolition waste. In reply to Mr Godwin Cassar’s letter we do understand that preliminary studies regarding the coasts and marine environment have to be carried out, together with an in-depth study regarding the location chosen, but the advantages for the island are enormous. We need the land which for five years we have been talking about golf courses, with no result. We are a tourist place and we cannot keep on dumping building material all over the island. Land reclamation is the practical solution but unfortunately what is practical to the entire world, this is not the case for the Maltese authorities. Take the Netherlands: whole towns have been built, and does anybody think that the Dutch government does not take care of the costal and marine environment? I am sure they do far more better then us.
I sincerely wish that the forthcoming report about the possibility of land reclamation will be published as soon as possible.
