Facts not insults

I refer to a recent letter from a certain Nicholas Borg from Siggiewi (MaltaToday 10 October 2004). I received this same letter a while ago at my office but couldn't reply as no address was given, and Nicholas Borg is not the most unusual name in Siggiewi.
Happily I receive hundreds more letters of praise, support and thanks than I do letters full of uninformed insults.
It is true that we have clean points system now. It is true that we do not build housing estates full of people of one particular political colour and it is true that we can’t control, much less create the current high level of property prices.
If this makes Mr Borg hanker for a Labour administration, that is his choice.
Your letter writer also made some apparently serious allegations which should be investigated. I suggest he, supply us with names so that these allegations can be properly looked into.
I can assure Mr Borg and all Malta Today readers that if there are any wrongdoings, these will be dealt with. But it is a little rich of Mr Borg to complain about the practically free plots policy, as if old Labour governments respected private property ownership!
May I take this opportunity though to thank all the people who heap praise on my staff for their sterling work since I became chairman of the Housing Authority and who write me such touching letters.
We, as the Board really do appreciate our staff's efforts in what is a very difficult, but rewarding area.
Marisa Micallef Leyson
Chairman Housing Authority Floriana
