Malta’s rate of inflation rose to 2.57 per cent over September, the eleventh consecutive monthly rise. The last comparable level was of 2.55 in November 2002.
As a whole, the Retail Price Index rose by 0.3 per cent over August.
The highest climber among the indices observed by the National Statistics Office was the clothing and footwear index, which rose by 3.9 per cent after higher prices were found for garments across the board, while price drops were recorded for men's and women's footwear.
The food items index decreased by 0.41 per cent due to price drops in pasta, fresh fish, poultry and rabbit meat. Average price increases, however, were recorded in respect of cheese, vegetables and fresh fruits.
The Housing Index increased by 0.81 per cent following higher average prices for materials for plastering, various construction works and parts of household appliances.
The Household Equipment and House Maintenance Cost index rose 0.65 per cent, while higher average prices were found for household appliances.
The Transport and Communications Index increased by just 0.02 per cent thanks to higher average prices for the maintenance and repair of cars, while a decrease was recorded in car prices and air transport services.
