Positive winter prospects for cruise liner industry

Valletta Waterfront is anticipating an intense period of activity at the Grand Harbour over the coming months as winter cruising in the Mediterranean gains popularity.
As a consequence of the new trend, the arrival of cruise liners in Malta is expected to be spread more evenly throughout the year. Evidencing the development, Monday of this week saw six vessels visiting the Grand Harbour, bringing with them nearly 4,000 passengers. The vessels were MV Nautica, MV Costa Allegra, MV Sunbird, MV Sea Cloud II, Le Ponant and MV Marco Polo.
Valletta Waterfront Business Manager Dirk Spiteri Lucas explains, “Valletta Waterfront has, over the past weeks and months, stated that cruising in the Mediterranean is changing and that as winter cruising becomes more popular, the arrivals of ships in the Grand Harbour will be more evenly spread throughout the year.
“In the past, October was a month when we would start planning for coming year but this year, we are pleased to see that Valletta Waterfront will also be kept busy in the winter months. This positive development will surely be welcomed by everyone interested in seeing Malta’s tourism sector doing well.”
