I appeal to the interior Minister Dr Tonio Borg to be very careful and selective to whom his Office confers Maltese citizenship.
In 1989 during Dr. Guido Demarco’s amendments of the Immigration Act Maltese citizenship was given to foreigners, who came to Malta for a marriage of convenience, like hot cross buns. The result was a prison full of foreigners holding Maltese citizenship and passports.
Maltese citizenship and passport in the wrong foreign hands is a risk and hazard not only to Maltese society but also to the tourist industry. Tourists will keep off Malta.
