MEPA chairman did not intend to use car

I refer to your reportage ‘MEPA Chairman travelled by car on Car Free Day’ featured on MaltaToday 26 September 2004.
In spite of the fact that my client answered Mr Manduca’s query regarding Car Free Day, the reporter saw it fit to request a further justification to the one sent to him. As the gentleman seems so genuinely interested in my client’s personal affairs, perhaps he would have seen it fit to offer to take Mr Calleja to hospital on the day?
Unless by some quirk, Mr Manduca did not realise from the Chairman’s email, which he quoted, that Mr Calleja had intended not to use his car on the day, I fail to understand what news value this item had to merit a front page story, unless it is to discredit Car Free Day.
Commitment in favour of the environment is a lifelong process and MEPA Chairman’s endorsement of activities in this respect are well documented.
Dr Ian Stafrace
Legal Counsel
MEPA
Editor’s note: If neither Dr Stafrace nor MEPA chairman Andrew Calleja can see the news value of Malta’s top environment official in MEPA not obeying his own instructions to his staff that is their problem. If the chairman had to go to hospital then a telephone call or a small note would have led to a change in our news story.
As regards Mr Manduca giving a lift to Mr Calleja that would have been impossible given that Mr Calleja’s reply arrived after Car Free Day and Mr Manduca has never owned a car.
