Office of the Prime Minister refuses to divulge names of consultants

The Office of the Prime Minister has refused to divulge the names of consultants working with the different ministers and parliamentary secretaries. It has called on MaltaToday to screen parliamentary questions for answers to this query. Subsequent research by MaltaToday indicates that the Labour opposition has not fielded any questions on consultants. MaltaToday has written to the Department of Information complaining that to depend on the ‘kindness’ of Labour parliamentarians is absurd .
Our research indicates that since March of this year, the Opposition members of parliament - traditionally such questions are only presented by Opposition members - have not put forward any questions pertaining to this subject.
MaltaToday told the director of the DOI: “As Director of DOI you have an obligation towards disseminating public information, more so when these consultants receive their allowances from public funds.
“Your suggestion that we should screen parliamentary answers is an attempt to avoid answering our questions.
“These questions are motivated by the prevailing debate on controlling public expenditure.
“Once again, MaltaToday calls on you to provide the information requested.”
