Untenable Brussels’ Sprouts

The recent purchase of the Brussels block of apartments is arguably the most scandalous affair that has pervaded the Nationalist administrations over the years. The hypocrisy of this Government and its aides has rarely ever been so blatantly evident.
We have a Government that, in the wake of stern financial cautions emanating from the EU, preaches restraint and introduces further taxes while at the same time capriciously spends millions of taxpayers liri on a block of apartments in Brussels.
But this was obviously just the tip of an iceberg. It now transpires that this very same block of apartments was purchased just months earlier by a Belgian firm for millions of liri less than the price sold to Malta! Is this how the Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi envisages administering our taxes?
The matter deserves a thorough investigation with no stone being left unturned until those responsible for this scandalous affair are made accountable to the Maltese taxpayers.
The positions of those that “conceived, controlled and pushed” this project are now, without doubt, untenable. They should do the honourable thing or else be removed.
This is another test for our Prime Minister. Does he or does he not have the strength to abide by his Constitutional obligations? Better to do the honourable thing now than suffer the flak forevermore.
