On behalf of the Committee of the Centenary feast of Sannat I would like to congratulate the people of Sannat for the way we celebrated the commemoration of the 1700 anniversary of the martyr of Saint Margaret.
It wasn’t an easy task both from the organising point of view or from the financial point of view, but with the help of a lot of people, we succeed in bringing among us the relic of the head of Saint Margaret from Montefiascone in Italy.
For many of those present at Mgarr Harbour for the arrival of the relic, this was the most exciting moment of the entire feast. The scene was impressive. Seeing all those people clapping and singing eager to see the relic. I can confirm that the Italian delegation that accompanied the relic during the voyage was impressed by the devotion shown towards Saint Margaret by the people of Sannat. There were thousands of other people from every part of Malta and Gozo who came to see the relic during the four days in which it was on view in the church.
But the thing that impressed most was the presence of people during all the religious ceremonies that where held in the church during the feast.
This clearly showed that for us the feast is not only a moment of joy but also an opportunity to move closer to Jesus.
We can say that the people of Sannat applied perfectly the motto chosen for this centenary feast which was ‘Towards Jesus on the steps of Saint Margaret.’
It was a well organised feast and with the collaboration of the public all went as planned. Therefore in the name of the Committee I would like all those who contributed, either physically or financially, so that the feast could be the success it was. But in the name of all the people of Sannat I would like to thank the man who, without his will and determination, this feast could not have been held as it was. This man is, of course, our Archpriest Father Tarcisio Camilleri. “Thank you Father Tarcisio.”
