I was amazed by the letter of Maltapost CEO Mr Lake, in the Maltatoday edition of Sunday 8 instant in which, he had the gall to mention the so-called achievements of the Maltese postal services since Transend took over.
Mr Lake should have mentioned the shoddy service being offered since his company took over like, for example, a letter takes more then two days to reach its destination in a nation barely 17 miles long. The horrendous denominations on commemorative issues which clearly show Maltapost is out to make a quick buck, rather then to help the Malta stamps collectors enhance their collections. Please Mr Lake don’t mention the Lm300, 40 years album, because not all the collectors can afford to pay that much.
If you want Malta stamps collectors and in the process Maltapost to earn a couple of thousands why don’t you take a leaf out of the USPS’s book and issue albums of commemoratives annually and stop selling those plastic wrapped, unattractive, year packs.
Mr Lake boasted about the decrease in manpower, but didn’t mention a word about the hassle people have to go through in order to collect a very small parcel. A case in point is the people of Cottonera who have to go to Zejtun. If Mr Lake wanted to make a hub at least he should have chosen to locate the parcel post office in Paola, where people, without their own means of transport, can reach by simply taking one bus instead of Zejtun where two buses are necessary.
Mr Lake has nothing to boast about because he only managed to make a good thing bad.
Joseph Caruana,
Kalkara.
