Highly deplorable

I refer to the article ‘Horror construction site – one fatal accident and two near deaths’ by Mr Julian Manduca in yesterday’s edition of MaltaToday.
It is highly deplorable that teachers and employees of the school close to the construction site claim to have witnessed accidents and have done nothing about it. Their duty was to inform the Occupational Health and Safety Authority immediately. It is very convenient for people to lament about lack of action when in reality they are also guilty of the same.
Under no circumstances are we in any way exonerating the employers from their duties. However, these teachers, apart from a civil responsibility, also have an ethical duty towards their students – whether Maltese or foreigners – in setting a good example.
We regret that this irresponsibility is extremely rampant and as we have done in the past, appeal once again for the public’s co-operation. The OHSA can be contacted on tel: 21 247677/8 or in case of emergency on mobile no. 99496786.
