In line with an agreement reached between Maltapost shareholders, which will see the future management of the company being based on a more permanent management structure in lieu of an external management agreement, the national postal carried has announced the appointment of Stephen Sultana as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Sultana, who takes up the post 1 October, comes into the the job from his previous posting as Chief Executive at the Malta External Trade Corporation - a post he has held since 1995.
Sultana has considerable experience in international business and marketing with the Malta Development Corporation and has also held various senior management posts since 1992. Mr Sultana has held various directorships in the private and public sector companies. He has also gained international consultancy experience in international trade and international marketing.
In the lead up to his assumption at the beleaguered Maltapost, Sultana is presently undertaking an extensive induction programme to familiarise himself with the postal business and with the various branches and sections of Maltapost in Malta and Gozo, and has already made short familiarisation visits to a number of branches and hubs. This is an ongoing process and Sultana hopes to visit each and every outlet within the company in the coming weeks, and will also travel to New Zealand to see the various operations of New Zealand Post.
Commenting on his new post, Sultana said he looked upon running Maltapost as a great challenge: “I know there are issues that need to be resolved, and this is the sort of service industry where we face stiff competition. With a good management team and support from the staff, I am confident that we can face these challenges ahead of us.”
Postal services General Manager
Another appointment within Maltapost, also in line with the agreement between shareholders regarding the future management of the company, is that of General Manager Postal Services. The post has been taken over by Teddy Cilia, formerly Senior Manager Human Resources, who has recently taken over from Martyn Penty, who had occupied this post for the past 21 months.
