President’s drug discussion paper

Reference is being made to the article entitled ‘Changes in drug laws on hold until President’s forum meets in September’ (27 June) by Matthew Vella.
During a ‘Drug Forum’ meeting held in mid-June, presided by HE the President, Dr. Edward Fenech Adami, it was decided that a copy of a discussion paper should be presented to the ministers concerned, namely the Hon Tonio Borg, Minister for Justice and Home Affairs, the Hon Dolores Cristina, Minister for the Family and Social Solidarity and the Hon Louis Galea, Minister of Education, Youth and Employment.
The discussion paper, which includes recommendations on possible measures that could be taken in combating drug abuse, was sent on Wednesday, 30 June for any necessary action that these ministers might wish to take.
Based on the above, the title and contents of the article in question are not correct.

Editorial note: In its reply to MaltaToday’s queries on the Drug Forum, the Office of the President did not inform us that the discussion paper had been sent on Wednesday, 30 June.

Christine Mercieca,
Communications Coordinator
President of the Republic
