AD should focus on the floating voter

So according to the PN those who voted for Arnold Cassola are a bunch of fools who did not listen to Big Brother`s message. The ‘I told you so’ syndrome is gaining momentum and PN is trying to instill a sense of guilt in the political conscience of those who voted AD. Hardly does PN know that those who voted AD understood that this election did not elect a government but a parliament of minorities.
The picture is clear. Comparing the result (in percentages) to the last General Elections, the PN lost about 10 percent of its support, MLP more or less retained its share and AD increased its support tenfold. Although both major parties have a lot of work to do before they jump to conclusions, AD should also identify the protest voter from the AD supporter.
We have to keep in mind that Alternattiva increased its share by about 21,000 votes which is equivalent to the same amount of votes which were swung from PN to MLP in 1996, and from MLP to PN again in 1998. So AD has to identify whether the votes it managed to increase from the last General Elections were those of the floating voters or not. Moreover, AD understands that Euro and Council Elections are a totally different scenario from General Elections.
AD should concentrate more on the floating voter. They have to send a message that after all they are not simply after a seat or more in the Malta parliament, but they also want to share power with a major party. Remember that no major party obtained an absolute majority of votes and this leaves room for thought.
It is also worth taking a look to those who abstained from voting or invalidated their vote. Who are these people? Why did they abstain or invalidate their vote?
It is only fair for AD to celebrate their success but this is a case in point where il-passat m` hux garanzija tal-futur. (the past no guarantee of the future).
