McDonalds backs Olympic runs

With reference to the letter by Mr Dion Borg of Mellieha (MaltaToday 13 June) criticising the Malta Olympic Committee’s choice of official sponsor for the Olympic Day Run 2004, maybe Mr Borg is not aware that McDonalds are TOP partners of the International Olympic Committee, where they contribute large amounts of financial aid, which has enabled many top athletes and young hopefuls to achieve their dream and goal of participating and competing at the Olympic Games. They have also extended their aid to support the Olympic Day Run, which is celebrated all round the world and not only Malta.
As Jacques Rogge the IOC President himself in his official message celebrating this year’s runs goes on to stay “more than ever, this annual event testifies to the important place that sport occupies in society.
McDonalds, a long-time partner and sponsor of this event, is working closely with the IOC to promote the values of Olympism worldwide, and to further encourage the practice of sport through programmes aimed at developing a healthier lifestyle.” MOC naturally follows IOC policy.
