Church wardens coming soon

By a staff reporter

The sweltering heat of the weeks to come will be no excuse in the eyes of God’s vicars when it comes to entering churches.
Despite dwindling mass attendances, the Curia has called on parish priests to “organise a service to be given by people who are to regulate entry and behaviour in Malta’s churches.”
The ‘wardens,’ the Curia said, “will prudently but firmly stop anyone dressed indecently from entering God’s Temple” as well as make sure that everyone behaves inside the churches.
Referring to the legion of church wardens to be set up, the Curia said “Church authorities consider such people to be giving a great service to the Christian community”.
In a statement issued Friday, the Archbishop’s Curia said the Church authorities were reiterating their appeal for “modest clothing which befits the dignity of civil and Christian human beings, especially in churches during the celebration of weddings and during feasts”.
The Church authorities are also encouraging parish priests and those preparing couples to get married “to remind them that their clothing and the clothing of people around them should respect the rules of Christian modesty.”
Parish priests should also forewarn those getting married of “the serious consequences,” that will arise should they, or those invited, ignore the Curia-imposed dress code.
