The last thing I want is to enter into a polemic with Michael Falzon on the thorny subject of hunting, but I do not take kindly to being accused of “malicious spins and lies,” which is what he suggests in last Sunday’s MaltaToday, a contribution that can only be described as an exercise in ‘damage limitation.’
My first reaction after reading him was to wonder whether I had, in fact, misread or misquoted his statement in the interview published in the same paper the previous Sunday. But no, I was not guilty of either misreading or misquoting it.
So to ensure there is no further room for misinterpretation I will quote Michael Falzon again. This is what he said “Hunters can get what they want only through the election of PN MEP’s.”
Perhaps Mr Falzon would be good enough to explain how else one can interpret this statement other than by concluding that the PN MEP’s will strive to retain the derogations obtained during negotiations with the EU on the Environmental chapter.
Whilst I doubt they will bend over backwards to try and retain these derogations. I have no doubt they will not succeed.
