PBS allegations denied

Public Broadcasting Services Limited refers to a report carried on MaltaToday 9 May page 8 under the heading ‘The End of PBS As We Know it’ by Karl Schembri, wherein Mr Peresso was interviewed stating that the company had abandoned FM Bronja so it could have a pretext to close it down.

PBS Ltd, whilst categorically denying the allegation made by Mr Peresso, points out that most of the producers and presenters who had programmes on FM Bronja in the year 2000 when George Peresso was responsible for the station, are still producing and presenting radio programmes for FM Bronja, and in no manner can it be alleged that FM Bronja had been abandoned.

There was at least one major improvement after Mr Peresso left, which consisted in the daily transmission of ‘Morning on Three’ which is the breakfast show of BBC3, the classical station of BBC.

Furthermore PBS Ltd. Also categorically denies that the new tendering process for programmes will only serve to: “Favour the chosen ones who knew beforehand what was happening.” The tendering exercise is intended to make the choice of programmes as transparent and as fair as possible. Please note that this is the first time a document was published outlining the company’s programmes’ policy, needs and evaluation criteria.
