The Malta-EU Information Centre’s acting head Carmel Attard has stressed that both the MIC and the European Parliament Information Office are completely neutral in the four public discussions organised by the two entities that will feature candidates running for the European Parliament.
MIC and the European Parliament's Information Office are organising the events together.
“The idea is to provide the public with the opportunity to meet the candidates and help the public to understand better the work of the European Parliament and the role of future MEPs. The public will have the opportunity to put questions to the candidates present. In this way it is the intention to create a genuine public dialogue. In other words, the public will be the interviewer,” Attard told MaltaToday.
Candidates from the whole political spectrum have been invited over four sessions. Each candidate is invited to sit once on the panel in one session only, whilst being allowed to be part of the audience in the other three sessions.
“The European Parliament is bearing the bulk of the cost while MIC's input is in facilitating matters as to contacts and logistics. The Information Offices of the European Parliament in most of the EU member States are organising similar events because it is considered important in raising awareness of the activities of the Parliament. MIC has joined in this effort with the Malta Office,” Attard said.
