Zebra crossing in prompting game

Kurt Sansone

All candidates for the European Parliament election that have appeared on Toni Abela’s Super One discussion programme Zebra Crossing, seem to have a high intelligent quotient each time answering correctly to pesky questions on the European Union’s history.
The ‘warden’ who comes out of nowhere presenting Abela’s guests with a ‘citation’ containing a quiz-like question on the EU has not yet managed to catch any of the guests unaware.
But the reason for the 100 per cent success rate may not lie with the candidates’ vast knowledge of the EU, MaltaToday can reveal. The guests are informed beforehand by the programme’s presenter of the questions to be asked.
This gives the candidates time to research the answers and avoid any embarrassment on air. The exercise could be described as ‘cheating’ but at least it gives candidates something to research about, which is a missing quality for most of them.
Zebra Crossing is another of Abela’s TV ventures. In the run up to the EP election the lawyer is inviting candidates of all shades and colours in a bid to suss out their respective political positions and personal opinions on all issues related to the EU.
The programme also comprises a series of slots highlighting the sorry state of various historical places around Malta. The trail of shame is aptly titled: ‘Those that are not entering Europe.’
