Carmela Zammit’s box

30 odd years ago, while working in Libya, my family lived in Malta – in fact, one of my daughters was born there.
Sometime during my stay there, I was given an old wooden box, which I was told was a safety deposit box from a bank, dating from pre - WWII days. I still have this box and wonder if it has any history.
It is a plain pine box with a hinged lid, about twenty inches long by eleven inches wide, and is about six inches deep. What I think is interesting is that in several places around the lid, the box was sealed with red sealing wax. The stamps bear the name ‘Carmela Zammit.’ I can only guess that originally, the seals would have been solid, and broken when the lid was opened.
If anyone on the island can shed some light on it, I’d be pleased to hear about it.
I’m in Canada and the box is taking up rather a lot of room in the tiny apartment where we live. If anybody would like it, I’d be happy to send it over for the cost of postage and packing. I really don’t want to throw it away before asking if anyone there would be interested in it.
If anyone is curious, I’d be pleased to email pictures of it. Let me know, please. hamishg@telus.net
