Rats with wings

Dr Herbert Messina

Congratulations to my friend and colleague the Mayor of Floriana, Mr Nigel Holland, and his Councillors for having taken the right initiative to try to eradicate the bad habit of the feeding of pigeons by individuals.
As Woody Allen once famously said of them “Pigeons are rats with wings.”
One London Borough - Wandsworth - took this observation to heart and to make sure that its new tenants understood the council means business, stated that anyone flouting the law could face eviction.
A friendly advice to the Mayor of Valletta, Dr Paul Borg Olivier is to follow suit as the pigeons in Piazza Regina and in front of the Law Courts usually perch on the tables and on the waiters’ trays pecking the remains of food to their hearts content, leaving droppings behind them which can be a cause of many diseases.
Signs such as the following which I have seen in Chelsea ‘Do not feed the pigeons - pigeon droppings make the footway slippery and spread disease’ should be erected in both places.
Action please!
