The truth about Hepatitis C

Dr Chev Herbert Messina Ferrante
Attard

After reading Valerie Borg’s letter, in reply to mine appearing on the 29 of February entitled ‘The Danger of A Kiss’ on the above subject, the first thing I did was to consult the Medical And Dental Register of the Medical Council in which there are 1060 registered Medical Doctors, which includes consultant and specialists, and 154 registered Dental Surgeons, and as expected Valerie Borg’s name does not appear anywhere.
Yet she, out of all those highly qualified doctors and dentists, 1,214 to be exact, felt she was the competent one to write on the subject matter and try to contradict me on points I raised from what researchers have said.
Unfortunately, she got herself into a muddle but being a non-medical I was not surprised as a little knowledge can be dangerous.
I invite the good Valerie to send a copy of our correspondence to the researchers at the University of Washington in Seattle where the testing of the saliva was carried out and then print the outcome. I stand by what I wrote quoting what Researchers have stated ‘Hepatitis ‘C’ virus could be spread by kissing or sharing a tooth brush . . . . Researchers found traces of Hepatitis ‘C’ in carriers’ saliva. . ‘
As to the last paragraph which I quote: “I urge the good Dr H. Messina Ferrante to get his facts straight before alarming quite a large number of Hepatitis ‘C’ sufferers in Malta unnecessarily,” my letter was not meant to alarm the Hepatitis ‘C’ sufferers (those who already have it ie the carriers); but on the contrary, to serve as a precaution against the transmission of the virus to the non-sufferers.
All readers now have a clear picture of the true facts.
