Give the country golf courses
Charles Demicoli
Msida
Way back in 1988 MIMCOL commissioned a report for the setting up of a golf course on the hill under the Verdala Hotel.
This report concluded that the project would be feasible and that it was an essential enhancement for tourism in Malta particularly if the then almost derelict Verdala hotel was refurbished and converted into a five star de luxe.
This project never took off and 15 years down the line no decision has been taken. The idea then was, to employ the few would-be farmers there as gardeners for the golf course. The arguments being brought up today of the natural area being destroyed is idiotic as the area is man-made and there is nothing natural about it.
The fact is that this country has to decide if we want to move forward economically or remain subject to the indecisions of entities, Ministers and Governments.
Ask anyone for their opinion and the answer would be ‘give the country golf courses’ and I do not mean one.
