A huge burden is plaguing the armed and police forces as the number
of immigrants being kept in custody on the island has reached 800.
235 immigrants, jam-packed in a 50-foot boat ended a dramatic journey
away from their home when they landed in Marsaxlokk on Friday. This
is the third contingent of immigrants that has arrived so far this
week. This recent surge is expected to put more pressure at the
Hal Far detention centre and the Ta’ Kandja and Safi Barracks.
