When a President’s
office exceeds its transport budget by over 50%
The President’s office which is regarded as one of high symbolic
value but little or no executive powers exceeded its approved transport
budget by 52% in 2000 according to a report issued by the office
of the auditor general.

The Christmas season may be slightly more comfortable for
almost 16,000 taxpayers who have received refunds owed to them by
the Inland Revenue Department over the past four weeks. A total
of more than Lm3.3 million in income tax refunds have been paid
out in December
